Maria is the Chief Privacy Officer (CPO) for the European COST Action entitled “Fintech and Artificial Intelligence in Finance”. She also holds the position of "Head of Research and AI Expert" at PrivacyEngine. She is a Fulbright scholar, and her interests now lie at the intersection of data protection and AI. She is vice-chair of the CEDPO (Confederation of European Data Protection Organisations) Working Group in AI, where she jointly published a series of policy papers on the potential impact of the EU’s proposed AI Act on the role of the data protection officer. She has privacy related publications at an EU policy level and in multiple academic journals.

 

Doug is a partner at McCann FitzGerald LLP, a leading Irish law firm with offices in Dublin, London, Brussels and New York. Doug is a partner in the Technology and Innovation Group in McCann FitzGerald LLP, and has over 17 years’ experience advising clients in relation to technology, data protection and intellectual property matters. He has a particular interest in AI, and has advised clients on AI Act compliance, AI governance programmes and the procurement of AI systems. Doug has been consistently recognised individually by Chambers and the Legal 500 in relation to his technology and data protection practice.
